Troubleshooting and FAQ
Side View
Side View is gone. How do I get it back?
- Click the SessionPaw icon, then Open Side View at the bottom left of the Popup.
- Or right-click the SessionPaw icon → Open SideView.
Side View is in the wrong place or the wrong size
- Click Reset All Position (cross-arrows button) at the top of Side View.
- Or right-click the toolbar icon → Reset SideView Position.
- To move it to the other side, use Settings → Dock Side View on the right.
My browser windows cover Side View, or leave a gap
- Click Reset All Position.
- Check Settings → Enable Override View. With it on, windows overlap most of Side View on purpose.
- If you use several screens or display scaling, try Settings → Window layout and record the position you want.
Clicking a tab switches back to Side View. Can I stay in the browser window?
That is how the normal layout works: SessionPaw brings the tab's window forward, then keeps Side View active so you can keep picking. With Override View on (left side only), you stay in the browser window instead.
Side View opens every time the browser starts
That is on purpose: SessionPaw needs Side View open to keep tab history and backups. If you don't want it, turn off Settings → Open side view on browser start-up.
Tabs and the tree
The tree is flat after a restart
Tab nesting comes from which tab opened which. The browser forgets this when it restarts, and so does SessionPaw. Tabs come back in the right order, but not nested.
Incognito windows don't show up
Allow SessionPaw in incognito: open your browser's extension settings, find SessionPaw, and turn on Allow in incognito.
I can't drag a tab into another window
You can't move tabs between a normal and an incognito window. The browser does not allow it.
What is the colored DUP on the right of some tabs?
Duplicates. Another open tab has the same address. See The tab tree → Duplicates.
Sessions
My browser crashed. How do I get my tabs back?
Open Session Manager, click Auto Saved, and click Restore on the newest card. To keep it, use its ⋯ → Keep in Default Saves. See Recover after a crash.
Auto Saved is empty or old
Auto Saved only runs while Side View is open. Keep Side View open while you work.
Opening a session freezes my computer
Set Settings → Opening many tabs to Hold unloaded or Pace loading. See Hibernate and memory saving.
Can I import sessions from another extension?
Import in Session Manager only reads SessionPaw's own export files. See Moving from Session Buddy, OneTab or Tabs Outliner for other ways.
Window names are gone after opening a session
Saved sessions keep window names, and opening a session gives the new windows their names back. Very old auto-saves may not have names stored.
My Cloud sessions don't appear on my other computer
- Check that bookmark sync is on in both browsers.
- Check that the SessionPaw CloudSession Saved folder is there in the bookmarks of the other computer.
- Bookmark sync can take a few minutes.
I see two "SessionPaw CloudSession Saved" folders
Older versions could create a duplicate folder in a new profile. Current versions merge duplicates into the oldest folder by themselves. If both are still there, move the contents into one and delete the empty one.
Bookmarks
I deleted a bookmark by mistake
If you deleted it in SessionPaw, it is in the Dustbin. Open Bookmarks Manager, switch a panel to Dustbin, and drag it back. See The dustbin.
What does the letter on the toolbar icon mean?
The current page is already bookmarked. F means the exact address, p0, p1… a shorter path, h only the site. See Bookmarks → The badge on the toolbar icon.
Plans
A message says my daily allowance is used up
Some actions count toward a daily allowance on the free plan. It resets tomorrow. See Plans and account.
Still stuck?
- Click the heart (Love SessionPaw) at the bottom of Side View or the Popup, then Send feedback.
