Scenario: switching between work contexts

You switch between different jobs during the day: a client project, support tickets, a side project, personal errands. Each one needs its own set of tabs, and having all of them open at once is noise.

Treat each context as a desk: a set of named windows you can put away and bring back.

Set up a desk

  1. Open the windows for one context and name them, such as "Client A – specs" and "Client A – tickets".
  2. Color them the same, so the desk is easy to spot in the list.
  3. Save them together:
    • If they are the only windows open: green power button → Save All.
    • Otherwise, save each window with right-click → Save window, then in Session Manager drag the windows into one session.
  4. In Session Manager, rename the session to the context name and give it a tag such as client-a. Drag it to Favorite if you switch to it often.

Switch desks

  1. Put the current desk away: green power button → Save & Close All. Or, to keep one window open, use Save and close window on the others.
  2. Open Session Manager, click the next desk, and click the open button.

With Hold unloaded on, only one tab per window loads at first, so switching is quick.

Short breaks: hibernate instead of closing

For a quick switch, say for a 15-minute call, you don't need to save and close:

  • Snowflake → Minimize other windows clears the screen.
  • Snowflake → Hibernate other windows frees the memory.

Everything is still in Side View when you come back.

Desks across computers

Right-click the save items to save to Cloud. The desk becomes a bookmark folder, and with bookmark sync it's waiting on your other computer. See Cloud sessions.

A map of your desks

If you juggle many contexts, open Concept Mode:

  • One concept per context.
  • Drag each context's saved session from Sessions onto its concept.
  • Add notes on what's waiting in each one.

Embedding a session doesn't open it. It just reminds you it exists and where you left off.

Tips

  • Use tags in Session Manager for clients or areas, then filter by tag.
  • Keep personal browsing in its own desk, so it doesn't leak into work sessions.
  • Check Auto Saved if you closed a desk without saving. The last hour is likely there.
